John Rankin HouseJohn Rankin House

Take a guided tour of the the newly restored home of Rev. John Rankin, located on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River, and learn how the Rankin family and their neighbors in Ripley and other nearby communities helped fugitives escape from slavery to freedom via the Underground Railroad.

At this National Historic Landmark, you can step inside one of the best-documented and most active Underground Railroad "stations" in Ohio and get the story of Ohio's role in the abolitionist movement that set the stage for the end of slavery as well as the modern Civil Rights movement. Meranda - Nixon WineryMeranda - Nixon Winery

The Meranda-Nixon Winery opened in 2007. It is located in an area of the Ohio Valley that was one of the largest grape growing regions in the country during the 1800s. Seth Meranda and his wife, Maura, own and operate the winery and vineyard. Their four children, Preston, Austin, Lizzie, and Ben, when not in school, contribute their help. In addition, extended family offers a helping hand when needed.

John Parker HouseJohn Parker House

The John P. Parker House is located in Ripley, Ohio, at 300 Front St. The house has recently been restored, and is open on weekends from May through the second weekend in December. Tours are offered 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays, and 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sundays. Tours can be scheduled at other times by calling 937-392-4188 to make an advance appointment.

River Village Country ChristmasRiver Village Country Christmas

River Village Christmas is the wonderful home-town festival of an Ohio river town. A hometown parade, carriage rides, caroling, concerts, tree-lighting, cookie decorating, baby contest, tree decorating contest and gingerbread contest, luminaries along Hwy. 52, River Village Christmas gets better every year.  Usually the 2nd weekend in December.  

 

 

 


Annual Barrel TastingAnnual Barrel Tasting

Local wineries including Kinkead Ridge, Harmony Hill and Meranda-Nixon hold their annual barrel tasting the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

 

 

 

 

 


Walk Front StreetWalk Front Street

Enjoy the beautiful homes along the river; bring a picnic and dine on the banks; or have lunch or dinner at one of the several riverfront restaurants. For boating enthusiasts, there are several marinas. A fabulous view of the Ohio may be seen from the Rankin House on the ridge above town.
